The development group is a joint venture between John Beeson of Houston-based Beeson Properties and Houston developer Ali Ebrahimi. The 17-story building will be leased to physicians and medical-related businesses. A number of hospitals and medical schools operate in the Texas Medical Center, where more than 50,000 people are employed.

The medical building will be constructed on a 1.35-acre site bounded by Main St., Travis and Old Main. Approximately 30,000 sf of retail space will be constructed on the ground floor of the building, which will have the address of 6760 Main St. The building will be stacked atop a multi-level parking garage, with parking for 1, 275 vehicles.

The structure, designed by Husmann and Associates, Architects and Planners, is slated for completion in spring 2002. The land for the project was purchased from WOD 2000 Joint Venture.

Privately owned, for-profit firms have not been very active in constructing professional buildings for lease to doctors. Medical office expansions primarily are being constructed by the various hospitals in the Texas Medical Center.
