Lafayette Place Lives Again, Thanks to $1.2 Mil Investment

SHELBY, NC-After 10 years of uphill effort and $1.2 million in redevelopment costs, the town of Shelby, roughly 45 miles east of Charlotte, has restored Lafayette Place, adding 17,000 sf of retail and residential space to the center city.

SHELBY, NC-A $1.2 million investment and 10 years of planning have made possible the renovation of Lafayette Place, a structure near Town Square that had been empty for about 15 years. The Uptown Shelby Association began to tackle the project in the early 1990s.

Capital for the project was raised by Charlotte developers Michael O’Brien and Ron Morgan, two local companies and a group of six individual developers.
