The last obstacle to be overcome is procuring a $1.5-million federal grant for the hotel, says Frank Viseck, development specialist for the Unified Government of WyandotteCounty/Kansas City, KS. The $16-million hotel will have 200 rooms and be connected to the Reardon Center at 500 Minnesota Ave. There are no other hotels in downtown Kansas City.
"We have been trying to get this thing rolling since we built the civic center," Viseck say. "The name Hilton has been tossed around for the hotel."
Ground for the new hotel should be broken the first of next year. The developer is Hotel LLC, which includes partners Landmark Hotel Co., MC Real Estate and the city. Plans for the civic center include updating mechanicals and a new facade and interior aesthetics.
