In addition to developing the land, Beazer will construct single-family homes in the project. The golf course will serve as home course and practice facility for the University of Houston collegiate golf team, currently ranked fifth in the nation. The golf course, to be called the Cougar Legends Club, will be developed by Collegiate Clubs LLC, a golf-course development firm. Professional golfersSteve Elkington and Billy Ray Brown, former members of the University of Houston golf team, will design the course. Homes in the community, which should be ready for move-in in early 2002, will be priced from $170,000 to $400,000.
The land formerly was used for agricultural purposes. Pearland has been a dynamic area for home construction in recent years and a number of retail centers and restaurants have been built to serve the growing population. Beazer Homes USA Inc., based in Atlanta, is one of the country's ten largest single-family homebuilders in the country.
