With an $8 million upgrade in the works, three supermarket chains are courting the mall for its new space. Safeway, Albertson's, and locally operated Gateway Foods have all expressed interest in locating at Eastmont.
Plans on tap for the renovated Eastmont center include a new 50,000-sf building that the grocers are vying for, a 20,000 youth-oriented department store and a four-story senior housing complex with 10,000 sf of retail space. A building that once held a Food Co. market on the property is being destroyed.
