Silver Spring Revitalization Project Loses Its Theater Anchor

SILVER SPRING, MD-Peterson Cos. is looking for new movie theaters after Edwards Theaters drops plans for a multiplex.

Theaters are typically seen as anchor tenants for such retail-intensive projects, because they draw crowds that will support other retail tenants.

California-based Edwards is one of several theater chains having difficulty now in the overcrowded theater business.

Muvico Theaters of Fort Lauderdale, FL is the most likely replacement prospect, sources say.
