PHOENIX-Eleven West Valley cities have banded together and are offering a site for a proposed $331-million domed football stadium. The 11 cities, along with several private business, collected $93,000 to fund a study to examine their proposed site, a 40-acre parcel between 91st and 99th avenues and Thomas and Indian School roads here.

The owner of the land, John F. Long, a long-time master-plan developer in the West Valley, has offered to donate the land. Although the parcel lies within the boundary of Phoenix, it has received the support of 11 small communities that dot the West Valley. Some of the communities in the coalition are 25 miles away from the site but local players believe that a new stadium would be a powerful economic engine for all of the West Valley.

“The East Valley has Sun Devil Stadium and–maybe–a Coyotes arena, and Downtown has the baseball stadium and the NBA arena,” Peoria Mayor John Keegan says. “It’s time for the West Valley to have that type of facility that we can share with the entire Valley. We have the land, we have the team and we have the resolve to make it happen.”
