Slocum's job will be to make First Union the preferred financial services provider for commercial real estate developers, owners and investors. He will also be responsible for further building the partnership with First Union's real estate capital markets group.

Slocum has been with First Union for 12 years. He replaces Dick Carling who is retiring at the end of the year.
