"A mixed-used development such as Bloomfield Park is for the greater good ofthe entire community," says Craig Schubiner, managing partner at the Harbor Cos., which is behind the development . "A research park is a single source use and onlyaccommodates a very few without providing significant benefits to thetownship and its residents."
The property is currently zoned as a research park. The Harbor Cos. has filed an application with the township to adopt a new ordinance for a mixed-use development. If approved, Bloomfield Park is expected to take seven to ten years to complete. The project is expected to go before the township Planning Commission after the elections in November, says Tina Bassett, a spokeswoman for Harbor Cos.
The 80-acre Bloomfield Park is being proposed as a mixed-use development, incorporatingthree million sf of class A office space, 1,200 luxury apartments, a 500-room hotel, a health and fitness club, 450,000 sf of retail, open public spaces, parks, two large lakes and entertainment facilities. All of the development will be grouped along a central Main Street so that everything within the community will be within walking distance.
The Harbor Cos. of Bloomfield Township is the owner and developer of the property, which is a mile north of Square Lake Road and east of Telegraph Road in an area surrounded by commercial uses. It took the Harbor Cos. eight years to assemble and acquire all of the land and to select the development team.
