The project is slated for property situated between Webster, Washington, Fifth and Second Streets. Several buildings on the property--currently occupied by the Alameda County coroner, North County Juvenile Services and the county's General Assistance--would be razed to make room.
The development would include a parking structure with access from Chinatown as well as the downtown Jack London Square area. There also is talk of a new Bay Area Rapid Transit train station in the area.
Port of Oakland director of commercial real estate Omar Benjamin is currently preparing a request for developer proposals, and says the project will likely be discussed at the port commissioners board meeting on Oct. 17.
