Cisco Complex Clears Another Hurdle

SAN JOSE, CA-The city and software giant Cisco Systems have agreed that the firm will pay $122 million toward the off-site infrastructure improvements necessary to prepare North Coyote Valley for its proposed 20,000-worker campus.

The money amounts to nearly 75% of the cost of building a new fire station, new sewer and water lines and a new freeway interchange on Interstate 101 at Bailey Avenue. Under the agreement, the city and state will put up $47 million.

This marks the latest chapter in the short life of the firm's hotly debated $100-million campus proposal. The San Jose City Council must now approve Wednesday's agreement. Cisco is the city's largest employer.
