The 28,000 square foot facility is estimated to cost about $3 millionand take about nine months to complete. More than 50 people will work atthe center, which will house 400 to 500 new and used power units.

Hunt Midwest is both the developer and design/build contractor for theproject, an unusual role for the company. Hunt Midwest has served inthese capacities in SubTropolis, its underground industrial park formore than 20 years, but in the past has had buyers of above groundproperties make their own construction arrangements.

``Kansas City's central location will help Mack draw customers fromthroughout North America,'' says Tom Steadman, Hunt Midwest Real EstateDevelopment vice president and general manager. ``To get the job done,we're providing a turnkey package, from selling the land to getting thefacility built.''

The Commerce Center is located just west of Interstate 435, at thenortheast corner of 45th Street and Randolph Road. Five additional lots,on 11 acres, are still available in the center.
