This plan follows voters' rejection of a quarter-cent sales tax thatcalled for the construction of a new courthouse near the existing annexat 308 W. Kansas St.
The contract was awarded to Jenkins & Associates of Merriam, Kan.Construction should begin this month and be completed in less than sixmonths, according to Susan Reese Duncan, the county manager ofadministration.
Improvements to the courthouse will also include security enhancementssuch as eliminating access through side doors and a metal detector atthe main entrance. The building will also be made more accessible topersons with disabilities
