Beginning in 1997, the U.S. General Services Administration first brought in two private brokerages, Spaulding & Slye of Boston and Crown Partnership of New York, to take on real estate duties it had kept to itself. The program was so successful that GSA now wants to expand it.
"We have discovered that when we outsource some of this transaction work, we have more time to spend with our clients," said Tony Costa, who oversees real estate operations in this region for GSA.
The agency has not decided how much extra work to give the brokers or how to divide up the work. It doesn't expect to solicit proposals from brokers until later this year.
