The firm, which is headquartered in Richardson, TX, reveals that it has signed a lease with Glorious Sun Robert Martin, LLC to add 53,000 sf of office space on the third floor of Two Blue Hill Plaza in Pearl River.

Fujitsu currently has 200 engineers, technicians, and support staff that work at its $122 million fiber-optic research and development center. The facility has approximately 62,000 sf of laboratory and office space, comprising the entire sixth floor of Two Blue Hill Plaza. Fujitsu will begin construction in June 2001, and expects to have its engineers working at the new office space by fall 2001.

Fujitsu Network Communications officials note that the company is experiencing huge revenue growth for its digital fiber-optics systems that are used in high-speed public networks. The company's revenue has doubled, to more than $2 billion, in the last two years, as the growth of the Internet, data, and video services has driven public network providers to build additional capacity into their networks to keep up with demand.

Among the development projects at Fujitsu's Pearl River center is an advanced multiplex that can integrate multiple services, thousands of simultaneous calls, and multiple gigabits per second of data traffic over a single pair of hair-thin strands of fiber-optic cable. Another project at the Pearl River center is fiber-optic based Passive Optical Networks for small businesses that will deliver broadband capabilities far exceeding the bandwidth of Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) technology over copper telephone lines. Fujitsu engineers are developing voice interoperability between public switched networks and new packet and cell-based networks so that users of new technology have seamless access to the entire network. They are also creating application specific integrated circuits for fiber-optic networks.

As it continues to grow, Fujitsu has the option to create offices for 20 engineers using approximately 4,000 square feet on the third floor of Two Blue Hill Plaza that will be available prior to June 2001. The Mack-Cali Realty Corporation manages the Blue Hill Plaza office complex.
