FirstWorld Communications Inc.'s newest center will provide its growing number of Southland customers with a variety of Internet-related services, including Web hosting. The company also rents space out to house its clients' computer equipment.

FirstWorld says about 100 people will work in the new facility. It operates similarly sized centers in Glendale and San Diego, as well as one in the Northern California city of Santa Clara and five more in other states.

Several other data centers have sprung up in the Southland recently to service the region's growing number of Internet-related companies.
