The O'Hare expansion project, which is expected to take up to eight years to complete, will involve construction of two new terminals with more than 20 gates and the reconfiguration of the existing Terminal 2 building. At a press conference last night, Assistant Aviation Commissioner Kitty Freidheim announced that the city intends to raise the air travel tax by $1.50 to $4.50 per ticket in order to fund the huge project.
According to published reports earlier this week, American Airlines and United Airlines, the two biggest users of O'Hare's facilities, have signed on to the expansion plan.
