Mayor Brown Proposes Subsidized Office Space for Nonprofits at Pier 70

SAN FRANCISCO-The proposal is to develop 150,000 sf of affordable space at Pier 70 and require private developers who receive city subsidies to build nonprofit space into their projects.

SAN FRANCISCO-A plan to provide low-cost office space to nonprofits caught up in the city’s soaring real estate market was announced this week by Mayor Willie Brown.

The proposal includes development of 150,000 sf of affordable space at Pier 70 and a requirement that private developers receiving city subsidies build nonprofit space into their projects. A study released Tuesday by Brown’s office found only 75 of 300 nonprofits have leases that lock in pre-boom rents past 2004.
