More than 160 laboratories at eight locations throughout the country will be consolidated into two buildings on the property, and a shipping, receiving and warehousing facility will be added."On the grounds, they're going to take about 100 research trailers and make a new building for the workers," says Gerry Holmes, a GM spokesman.Labs that support vehicle development and integration activities will be consolidated at the Milford site, saiys Frank Colvin, vice president and group director of engineering for the GM North American Car Group.
"By reducing the number of sites, we'll be able to improve response time, reduce structural costs and increase the sharing of resources and prototype properties," Colvin says.Other Proving Ground improvements include new entrances and expanded parking. GM Powertrain operations in Brighton will also be moved to the Milford campus.
