Expansion has begun, and workers are pouring a two-mile swath of concrete across the airfield in order to replace the airport's 32-year-old jetliner airway. Work on the nearly 12,000 foot-wide, 150-foot long strip is planned for completion by winter.
And that's just the beginning. On tap are construction of a new terminal, renovation of another, and road improvements. Within a decade, airport officials say, they want to be able to handle nearly 18 million passengers yearly. It now serves about an annual 12.5 million passengers.
