The 506-acre property lies north of the city limits, between Interstate 5 and Stearns Lane. The group filed some of the necessary paperwork to create the 250-acre Oak Hills Industrial Park this summer, saying an Oregon corporation is seeking expansion space for a computer chip manufacturing plant.

Sutherlin city manager Don Moore could not be reached for comment Friday. The city held a public hearing on the Alaska Sutherland Knolls proposal last month. Another hearing on the proposed park is scheduled for Oct. 17. The group says it hopes to be in the ground next spring.

If the property owners succeed, the next order of business would be getting the property included in the Sutherlin-Oakland enterprise zone, which offers property and state income tax breaks for 15 years, instead of the usual three- to five-year property tax exemption.
