Actually, only half of the $400 million authorization would be spent on land preservation. The balance is earmarked for improving the existing county park system. Specific land tracts targeted for acquisition won't be announced until after the votes are counted.
Much of the land destined for purchase lies in totally undeveloped western sections of the county. However, Broward officials have promised residents of blighted areas closer to the ocean that some of the money will be spent to improve their neighborhoods with park projects.
