Clark Construction, Bethesda, and Gilford, Beltsville, have formed a joint venture to build the Advanced Measurement Laboratory, the largest single construction project in NIST history.

The laboratory is intended to carry out the agency's most advanced work in chemistry, physics, electronics, meteorology and materials sciences. It will include two labs below ground and two labs above ground, 48 temperature-controlled labs and 27 extremely-low vibration labs. These will be used for research on semiconductors, industrial robotics and pharmaceuticals.
