Plans are in the development stages for three of the four US 321 interchanges. Cansler Crossing, an 87-acre business park, will house commercial, industrial and residential. The land is being divided into five and 10-acre sites to attract warehouse-distribution operations needing quick access to US 321.
The 500-acre River Road Business Park is being developed by the city of Hickory. This development will have office, residential, commercial and light industrial. Hickory hopes to attract mostly high-tech companies.
A third project, Newton Corporate Center, will be a mixed-use 500-acre business park. Catawba County planners and developers are looking to attract businesses that need access to the Charlotte airport but want to avoid the high land prices in Mecklenburg County.
