After two years of searching for appropriate space in San Francisco, founders Elliot Hoffman and Gail Horvath looked across the bay for respite from the city's space race. They found what they were looking for in a patch of land at Enterprise Way and 85th Avenue in East Oakland. Bank of America, and the city of Oakland provided the financing. When the facility is complete, Just Desserts expects to expand the production of their award-winning sweets from 12 million pieces of cake per year, to about 60 million slices per year.
Started as a store-front venture in the Castro in 1974, the Just Desserts empire now includes four retail stores in Oakland and San Francisco, and wholesale work providing sweets to businesses, restaurants and hotels throughout Northern California.
