Egghead's veep of operations Norm Hullinger tells GlobeSt.com that the site was selected for is price, location, and wide-open warehouse format. The property sits near Interstate 5 and Highway 14. Hullinger is not yet revealing the lease rate because the deal is not yet finalized.

Egghead sells computer hardware and software, as well as electronics and leisure goods. It hopes to occupy the building by Nov. 1, and be employing as many as 300 people in the facility by early next year. The company currently employs 380 people at its distribution and administration center in the Columbia Business Center at 514 Chkalov Dr.

An obstacle to the Egghead lease of the site was its industrial zoning, but the city eventually decided to allow the customer service center operation after Egghead said it would use part of the space for warehousing and distribution activity.

Ultimately, the company is looking to purchase property in the area. "Our goal is to have a presence in Vancouver forever, and as the company continues to grow we will outgrow this space as well," says Hullinger. "We would like to build ourselves a campus up there."
