City officials may begin collecting fees from commercial developers in order to raise money for affordable housing. The area has been booming ever since companies began flocking to Silicon Valley's eastern edge to avoid higher rents closer to the area's heart. The City Council began studying such fees late last week.
Sources say that affordable housing is severely needed in the area. There were no affordable homes built in the area during last year.
