New Airport Customs Building on Tap

SAN JOSE-Development of a three-story, 70,000-sf customs and inspection building got underway this week at the international airport here. It will replace a "temporary" trailer that has housed the department for 10 years, and be closer to the main terminal.

Construction began this week on the $45-million facility, which will include shops, restaurants and a lounge. It is being developed by SJ Amoroso of Foster City, CA.

The building will eventually house other operations, including the USDA agriculture inspection operation. All customs and inspection activity at the airport will eventually shift to the planned Terminal B, which has yet to break ground.
