Westin Wins Contract to Manage 700-Room, $143-Mil Convention Hotel

CHARLOTTE-The Downtown inn is scheduled to open in fourth quarter 2002. A major asset of the hotel will be an on-site trolley station, linking the convention district with the south side of Charlotte.

CHARLOTTE-The contracts for managing Portman Holdings’ new 700-room, $143-million convention hotel have been signed by Westin’s parent company, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. Starwood officials say the Westin brand’s international marketing power and global reach will open new economic opportunities for Charlotte’s business community. There are 120 Westin hotels in 26 countries.

A major asset of the hotel will be an on-site trolley station linking the convention district with the south side of Charlotte. The station is being funded through a grant from the city. The hotel complex will also provide parking for 1,500 vehicles.
