Catholic Charities and the Colorado Coalition had filed the lawsuit last year on behalf of the region's homeless. The settlement guarantees housing for 70 homeless families at two apartment complexes and preserves developers' efforts to make existing housing compatible with new construction.
The agreement also clears the way for new construction, which had been held up by the year-old lawsuit. Under federal law, a portion of existing military housing at bases being closed nationwide must be used to provide housing for the homeless. The lawsuit had challenged LRA's intent to follow the requirement.
