The Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation has offered to host the stadium on a stretch of land along the Beeline Highway in the East Valley. The Nation offers plentiful land, easily financed access roads and parking lots.

The Nation's proposed site is one of three offered for the location of the new stadium, which will also include office, retail, entertainment and hotel space. One site is in west Phoenix, near Interstate 10 and 99th Avenue, and another along the boarder between suburbs Mesa and Tempe, near the interchange of the Loop 101 and Loop 202.

"Our role is to protect the interests of the community and to select the best site," says Jim Grogan, chairman of the Tourism and Sports Authority Board, which is spearheading the stadium drive. "We have three extremely viable sites, and we don't plan to eliminate any of them before the election."

On Nov. 7 voters will decide whether to pass Proposition 302, which would authorize a 30-year, $1.8-billion financial package from increased taxes on hotel rooms and rental cars. If the measure passes, the Cardinals would kick in another $85 million.

Wherever the stadium is placed, the municipality is expected to pony up as much as $120 million in infrastructure improvements to support the new development.
