The campus is planned for North Coyote Valley, a heretofore-agricultural area 11 miles south of downtown San Jose. Cisco's development there is being increasingly viewed as a springboard for more development in the 1,700-acre corridor.
Late last week, a mayoral "Housing Production Team" recommended immediate planning for development in the central Coyote Valley. That dictate reverses city policy mandating slower growth in the area. Several developers already have bought property or indicated interest in the North Coyote Valley area, including Shapell Industries and Signature Properties.
