SAN FRANCISCO-Mayor Willie Brown and Catellus Development Corp. held a groundbreaking ceremony yesterday at Mission Bay. The site, encompassing 303 acres south of Market stretches from Townsend and 7th Streets all the way to the San Francisco Bay.

The Mission Bay project is slated to include a five million sf corporate and tech campus, 6,090 residential units, a 500-room hotel, and 700,000 sf of retail space. Additionally, the site will feature a new life-sciences campus for the University of California at San Francisco, along with 49 acres of parks and open spaces. “Mission Bay is the biggest shot in the arm this city has received in more than 30 years,” says Brown.
