WOODBURY, MN-Woodbury is the fastest growing city in theMinneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan region, according tocensus figures.

The population of the suburb, locatedin the eastern or St. Paul half of the region, rose121 percent from the 1990 census compared to a census takenlast year. The city started with 20,000 residents in1990, and grew to more than 44,000 last year. Thegrowth helped shift the traditional pattern of growthin the Twin Cities, two-thirds of which would occur inthe west half and one-third in the east half,according to planners with the Metropolitan Council, astate agency devoted to regional issues in the TwinCities.
