Redwood City is in the midst of buying the project's future site, which now has a variety of small shops and a former JC Penney clothing store. The city will sell the site to the project's developer.
Officials envision a 20-screen, 4,500-seat movie theater, plus two anchor tenants, included in the project. Century Cinema has expressed interest in developing the theater. The city has said it would like the project to break ground by next year.
