This is good news for the local hospitality business, which has added 4,000 hotel rooms over the past two years. Several thousand additional rooms are under construction.

The convention bureau has stepped up promotional efforts in recent years. The Miami area is now marketed to both foreign and domestic visitors as a year-round destination. While summer business has improved markedly, the peak tourist season remains October through Easter when hotel occupancy rates can exceed 80%.
