DETROIT-A bill to help rebuild homes and other development projects in the Detroitarea recently was approved by the US House of Representatives. Congress passed the combined VA-HUD and Energy & Water appropriations billfor fiscal year 2001 federal government spending by a vote of 386-24recently.

Among the funded projects are:* $1 million to the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries for building purchaseand renovation.* $700,000 to the Covenant House, Michigan, for theconstruction costs of a permanent Rights of Passage facility.* $500,000 to the city for the Detroit River PromenadeProject.* $250,000 to Motor City Blight Busters to establish arevolving loan fund for new construction, acquisition, and rehabilitationof distressed homes.* $200,000 to the Flint Chamber of Commerce foreconomic development efforts.* $1.25 million to the City of Mt. Clemens to establish a communityrecreation center.* $225,000 to the city of Ferndale for refurbishment of WashingtonElementary School for use as a community center.
