Wright Runstad entered into a 99-year lease with PacMed in 1998 to redevelop the historic building and completed the renovation in 1999, opening up 258,000-sf of office space. It now serves as home to Amazon.com, which takes up 12 floors of the building. The lower two floors continue to serve as PacMed's community clinic and offices, while the building's remaining two floors serve as storage space, says Alex Pietsch, spokesperson for Wright Runstad.
The Amazon.com building is just the third building in Seattle to win the Urban Land Institute award since the organization began recognizing outstanding projects in 1979. The Urban Land Institute, headquartered in Washington DC, is a non-profit education and research institute that studies land use and real estate development police in practice. The organization was founded in 1936 and has approximately 15,000 members.
