On Nov. 27, representatives from cities in San Benito, Santa Cruz and Monterey counties will meet in San Jose to discuss joint planning on future development in the area. San Jose Mayor Ron Gonzales proposed the meetings, which will be open to the public, as a means of city officials putting their heads together on future development. The event will kick off a series of meetings during which city officials will try to map out a workable plan for balancing growth with traffic, land and other environmental concerns.

The filing deadline for Salinas to file its suit challenging San Jose's environmental impact report on Cisco's 20,000-worker campus is Nov. 22. Other cities in nearby Santa Cruz and Monterey counties say they are prepared to join in the suit and fight Cisco's project in court.
