The Lakeland, FL-based grocer is breaking ground this month in Pompano Business Center, 1901 NW 25th Ave., on a 140,000-sf distribution facility, 35 miles north of Downtown Miami. The estimated hard construction cost of the building is $7 million.
Publix Super Markets Inc., parent of PublixDirect, is also scouting sites in other cities in Florida and Georgia for additional fulfillment centers. The Pompano Beach plant will house 300 workers and a fleet of PublixDirect delivery trucks.
Publix Super Markets is owned and operated by its 121,000 employees in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Alabama. The company's 1999 revenue from its 643 stores was $13.1 billion.
