The Castle group, out of San Mateo, is a privately held company. It has negotiated with Emeryville's Land Redevelopment Agency to purchase most of the land at the site. The Promenade project is located at San Pablo and 45th avenues, across the street from the new Pixar campus, which serves 450 employees.
Owing largely to its proximity to San Francisco, area public transit, and the Oakland International Airport, real estate in Emeryville has been booming recently. The city, hoping to fend off an associated housing crisis, has been working closely with developer like Castle to bring more housing to the area.
