San Antonio, Arlington, Sugar Land Make SuperTarget Expansion List

SAN ANTONIO-With the state's first SuperTarget now open, the Target family is adding three more supercenters to its Texas lineup. San Antonio, Arlington and Sugar Land will join 12 other SuperTargets and 21 new Target stores next year.

SAN ANTONIO-SuperTarget is ticketing Texas to expand its big box offerings, with stores under way in San Antonio, Arlington and Sugar Land near Houston. Grand openings have been set for July 29, 2001 although two of the three will open by the end of March.

Nationwide, there are 12 other SuperTargets in the works and 21 Target Stores being built in 20 states. Other SuperTarget markets being expanded are Alabama, Florida, Indiana and Iowa while entries are being marked in Louisiana and the chain’s home base of Minnesota. The big box retailer builds 50 to 75 new stores each year.

In San Antonio, SuperTarget is keeping pace with its construction schedule. The supercenter is being built at the intersection of Bandera and Highway 64. It will be ready for business by the end of March.The Sugar Land store is located at the intersection of Texas 6 and Interstate 59. A March delivery also is expected since construction there too is on schedule.The Arlington store at the intersection of Cooper and Arbrook Blvd. won’t be ready to open until the July 29 nationwide grand opening for the 36 new retail sites.In October, SuperTarget opened its first Texas location in Ft. Worth’s Cityview, a retail hub at the intersection of Bryant Irvin Road and Overton Ridge Boulevard that has attracted other big boxes such as Costco, a discount, high-end merchandiser that opened its doors in September.
