He replaces John T. Rippel who recently resigned. Rippel, who joined Gables in 1982, was president and chief operating officer before he retired last year. He plans to pursue other real estate activities. Gables' board has two company trustees and six independent trustees.

The REIT is paying a fourth quarter dividend of .5675 ents per common share to shareholders of record on Dec. 15. Gables' annual dividend will amount to $2.27 per share.
