Hotel Plan at Former Police Headquarters Wins Approval

BOSTON-The $40 million conversion of the police headquarters here was given to the Saunders Hotel Group, a longtime local hotelier. Landsmark Ltd. of London lost it when the city decided it wasn't making enough progress.

BOSTON-The Saunders Hotel Group won approval from the city’s Public Facilities Commission for a 200-room hotel in the former police headquarters on Berkeley St. here. The Group agreed to pay $14 million for the surplus building.

Landsmark Ltd., a London-based developer had originally won the job last January when it offered $15.5 million for the building but lost it in August because of lack of progress. The $40 million project will involve adding three floors will be added to the seven-story building, creating 200 rooms, three times the size proposed by Landsmark.
