Still being completed is a day care center for employees' children. The YMCA will operate the center. Codina Development Corp. of Miami assembled the design team that had to figure out how to consolidate NCII's staff spread out in three Boca Raton buildings. The layout of the structure had to be flexible, worker-friendly and production-oriented.

The consultants were Retzsch Lanao Caycedo Architects and LA Design, both of Boca Raton. For starters, the designers laid out standard-sized 11 feet-by-12 feet offices for all management staffers. Most of the support staff works in eight feet-by-eight-feet cubicles. The office walls, doors and front glass panels are demountable for later office space expansion.

Conference rooms are at the heart of NCCI's operations. A mix of consultants trade thoughts and information daily. They often had to book advance conference room time in the past. No more. Instead of one or two meeting areas, the building has entire hallways of conference rooms readily available at any time, without advance booking.

The building's 10,000-sf atrium resembles an entertainment center with a ground-floor cafeteria and table seating for 200 persons. Another lounge with laptop hookups and coffee tables leads off the main atrium area. Other amenities are an additional on-site cafeteria operated by Host Marriott; a Starbucks coffee bar; a fitness room; aerobics classroom; and restrooms with individual lockers.
