Keith Maehlum, president of development for West Water Real Estate, declined to disclose the cost of the hotel, but he did say the project has been in the works for five years but had been delayed due to a moratorium.

The hotel is being constructed on top of and behind an existing one-story building owned by West Water Real Estate. One of the building's two existing tenants, Cucina Presto, part of a chain of restaurants located in the Puget Sound region, has opted to close its doors rather than sit through a year's worth of construction. "They elected to leave and we agreed to terminate their lease," says Maehlum, noting that the restaurant owners would have been obliged to make improvements to the building had they stayed.
