New Big-Box Chains Appear in Bay Area

EAST PALO ALTO, CA-The EXPO Design Center--a branch of the Home Depot--is slated to open here on Thursday; REI and Borders Books & Music open soon afterward in Fremont.

EAST PALO ALTO, CA-More chain stores are headed for the Silicon Valley–just in time for holiday shopping. On Thursday, the EXPO Design Center opens in East Palo Alto, CA, as well as in Concord to the north. The Concord store will span 93,000 sf, with the East Palo Alto store close to that size.

EXPO is a branch of home-improvement giant Home Depot. But in contrast to the Home Depot’s warehouse-like appearance, EXPO features lush rooms with upscale appointments. Together, the two stores are estimated to add about 175 jobs to the area.
