It's all part of parent company Coca-Cola's campaign to cut back operating costs. MM will lay off about 150 employees, move the remaining 350 to newly leased offices "somewhere in Houston" - and put the building up for sale.
The prime location of the building at 2000 St. James, just west of the Galleria shopping malls, will make for lively bidding, while brokers scurry to meet MM's leasing needs.Coca-Cola and its subsidiaries want to cut costs so it can spend more promoting its beverage brands. Minute Maid is the second largest orange juice company in the world, trailing Pepsico's Tropicana. Minute Maid employees will learn who is getting the ax on Nov. 28, giving them all something to ponder over the Thanksgiving holiday.
