Proposed Westchester County Budget to Cut Property Taxes

WHITE PLAINS-County Executive Spano also has proposed having the county take over the agency designed to promote Westchester's hotel and tourism trades and he noted the success of the county's Office of Economic Development.

WHITE PLAINS-Westchester County Executive Andrew Spano’s proposed 2001 budget would cut the county tax levy by $17 million or 4.8% if approved by the Westchester County Board of Legislators. According to county government officials, if the budget is adopted as proposed, the Spano administration will have slashed county taxes by 7.2% or $26.1 million since 1998.

“I promised to reduce taxes and I have done that despite an increased burden from the state and federal governments of almost $55 million,” said Spano. “At the same time we are investing in the future of our seniors, our children and our environment. We have accomplished all this while securing our long-term financial stability. I truly believe we are a model for other counties.”
