"The course will be the only one in the Chicago metropolitan area designed by three-time U.S. Open champion Hale Irwin," notes Mike Jenkins, VP with Landscapes Unlimited. Irwin won his championships in 1974, '79 and '90. The course will be on about 200 acres bordering the Sun City complex, north of Jim Dhamer Dr. and east of Illinois 47. Landscapes Unlimited will have an equity interest in the course, as will Prime, though both privately held companies declined to detail the exact proportions.
According Prime, the course will benefit from its location near the Del Webb development, which will provide a ready market of affluent people with time on their hands and a strong interest in recreational golfing. "It's an important recreational asset for Huntley," asserts Phillip Waters, VP of Prime. It will be completing, however, with a clutch of existing golf courses in the far northwestern suburbs, including Boulder Ridge, Turnberry, Crystal Woods and Pinecrest, the nearest existing course to Huntley.
To date, Prime has developed about 150 acres of office, retail and industrial space in Huntley, excluding the 1,650 acres sold to Del Webb for its project. Prime is a diversified real estate company, providing investment, development, brokerage and management services to most segments of the market. Landscapes Unlimited has built more than 260 golf courses nationwide.
